Microsoft’s gaming console Xbox is in the news again. Microsoft has been hinting at a new Xbox platform expected in 2010 or 2011. The Project Phoenix or Xbox 720 is allegedly in development at the Research and Development Centre or Microsoft. The Xbox 720 is considered as a real revolution compared to the Xbox 360. Reportedly, Microsoft has already sent out development kits for the upcoming platform and some studios in North America have already started working on the prototype.
The Project Phoenix reportedly features the all-new X-Engine to make the most out of the Xbox console. As the existence of the Project Phoenix is still not confirmed by Microsoft officially, the technical specifications and other details of the product are also unavailable. Allegedly, the technical specifications have been sent to select developers who are matching them on PC. The Xbox 720 will be a part of the eighth generation of gaming consoles. The eighth generation also features other members like Sony PlayStation 4, Nintendo Wii 2 and Apple Pippin platform.
The stories of the progress of Xbox 720 are circulating on the internet. Many suggest that the developers have tried Xbox 360 games on Project Phoenix platform and upscaled them with increased anti-aliasing, anastropic filtering, improved graphics and performance. The bottom line is that the Xbox 720 will be able to run Xbox 360 games and with better graphics and performance.
Game publisher Blizzard has stated that Microsoft is closely working on the replacement for current Xbox 360. On the other hand, Microsoft has frequently denied existence of Xbox 720.
