Alkaline batteries and their Applications
Alkaline batteries or alkaline cell are the most primitive types of batteries. They consist of many different types of cells and thus are also known as miniature power cells. They are disposable and need to be thrown after some duration of their usage. This feature is not that likeable as one has to keep new batteries every now and then. Other available these days are alkaline rechargeable batteries.
They can be used more than one time and are thus cost efficient. It also saves lot of efforts as you do not have to go to market again and again and keep on changing these cells. Alkaline cells work with the help of a chemical reaction between zinc and manganese oxide. They got their name alkaline batteries due to the presence of alkaline electrolyte present in them.
The electrolyte which is used in alkaline batteries is potassium hydroxide. They provide power backup which is quite significant. The capacity of different alkaline batteries varies from one other depending on different factors. Other factor is the size of the battery. Also the quality of the battery plays a very important role. Some brands offer greater longevity than others. You can also increase life span of your battery by handling them with utmost care. Always remember one thing that if you take care of your alkaline battery in result you are taking care of your gadgets.
